The Earth
Summit took place in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, marking a new
direction in the teaching, diffusion and promotion of
environmental awareness, mainly through the ‘Agenda 21’
document. It proposed the reorientation of education
towards sustainable development, increased public
awareness, and the promotion of training.
A group of
Argentines who took part in the meeting understood the need
for these principles to be applied in their country. They
therefore decided to form an organisation which held caring
for the environment as the main objective of its work. On
18 June 1993 they founded the Asociación de Grupos de
Recuperación Ecológica y Supervivencia Terrestre
(Association of Groups for Ecological Recovery and Survival
of the Earth), later called Fundación Agreste. |
