Sustainable
development is one that meets present needs without
compromising the ability of future generations to
meet their own, is long lasting, efficient and
rational use of resources and equitable
benefit-sharing.
Normally do not understand how
close are the links between human activities and the
environment. To enhance awareness of society, must
not only understand the physical and biological
environment, but also the socioeconomic reality of
human development.
In Argentina, this model of development is taking
its first steps. Among the difficulties to be
considered are the problems of big cities but also
those problems present in small towns and even in
the largely uninhabited.
Each city have complications associated with
their size: the excessive consumption, the large
generation of waste, overcrowding, lack of green
space, the various types of pollution: noise, air,
etc.
Local economies are severely affected by the lack
of sustainability of their activities. This results
in highly marginalized groups affected: slums on the
outskirts of cities (forced to leave their places of
origin by the lack of work and future), an
impoverishment of rural populations, the loss of
identity of indigenous communities precursors for
their traditions for the sustainable development,
are particularly sensitive to poor management of
development policies.
Fundación Agreste seeks to raise awareness to the
educational community and society in general, with
respect to the challenge of creating a balance
between ecological issues and technological
developments, environmental care that will improve
the quality of life for all inhabitants.
